Nachdem ich jetzt ja schon 2 Monate in New York bin, hat es mich gestern das erste Mal in ein Musical verschlagen. Genauer gesagt haben wir Green Day’s American Idiot gesehen und es ist wirklich gut! Obwohl ich finde, dass $50 für die günstigsten Tickets recht happig finde, hat es sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt

Ein kurzer Auszug aus dem Plot (Wikipedia Post):

The musical opens on Johnny, Will and Tunny: three twenty-something friends unhappily living in suburbia (identified as Jingletown, USA) and saturated with TV ( “American Idiot” ). The three feel by their mundane lives ( “Jesus of Suburbia” ) and decide to escape. Johnny (aka Jesus of Suburbia) borrows money from his mother and buys bus tickets to the city for himself and his friends. Will, however, learns that his girlfriend Heather is pregnant and must stay with her. Johnny and Tunny depart for the city with a group of other jaded youths ( “Holiday” ). [..]

Vor ein paar Monaten, ich glaube es war im Dezember oder Januar, haben wir ein Paper fuer die EWME 2010 in Darmstadt eingereicht und wurden akzeptiert. Zwischenzeitlich hat diese nun stattgefunden und das Paper kann hier runtergeladen werden

A few months ago, I think it was in December, we submitted a paper to the EWME 2010. It got accepted and the EWME took place a few weeks ago. So the paper is now published and can be downloaded here

Abstract – Within the Master Project “Wireless Mobility” this project was offered to IT Master Students during the second and third term and ran approximately over ten months. The project team developed a demonstrator platform to export the display content from a consumer mobile phone to a larger remote display, e.g. installed in a car. The key requirement was the utilization of non-proprietary technical solutions. This constrain did not limit the scope to standardized solutions only, but proprietary solutions ought to be open source or somehow accessible for the interested community. One important goal of this project was the awareness of latest design constraints and challenges in the Embedded Systems and System on Chip (SoC) area through a Project Based Learning (PBL) strategy. In this context, the students developed personal design competence, including specification, design trade-offs, design for testability, analysis and verification, and realization.

After a lot of development we finally released the new version of appazaar last week and presented it on the Pervasive 2010 which was pretty successful

Die letzten Wochen waren voll mit Arbeit, Socialising – irgendwie klingt das in denglisch nach Buzzword… – und Arbeit (taucht mit Absicht doppelt auf ), so dass ich nur gelegentlich dazu komme hier zu posten und das meiste dann irgendwie auf der Strecke bleibt. Im Prinzip setzt sich mein Leben zur Zeit aus im Durchschnitt 10h Arbeit / Tag und anschließenden Events mit diversen Bekannten zusammen – anstrengend auf der einen, aber unglaublich spannend auf der anderen Seite – hoch leben die Großstadtabentue(r)er
Der Montag ist mittlerweile quasi zum Comedytag mutiert bei dem wir ins UCB Theater gehen. Dort gibt es eine (meist) geniale, kostenlose Standup-Comedy Show namens Whiplash und ich kann jedem nur empfehlen dort mal vorbeizuschauen! Dienstags ist 2:1 im Matchless mit ausufernden Kickerturnieren und der Rest der Woche wird meistens 5min vorher verplant

Gestern war ich mit einem meinem Mitbewohner, seiner Freundin und noch einer Bekannten im Madison Square Garden bei einem Basketballspiel. Das Spiel selbst war nicht sooo genial, aber schon noch ganz okay – Frauen Basketball ist doch eine ganze Ecke langsamer und weniger spektakulär als das der Männer. Die Show rundrum war allerdings (wie beim letzten Mal) sehr schick! Anschließend haben wir noch kurz bei einer Freundin gestoppt, deren Firma eine Ausstellung hatte. Da sie so nett war mich auf die Gästeliste zu setzen sind wir in den Genuß von 2-3 Gläsern Wein gekommen und konnten uns ein paar schicke Designermöbel anschauen

Sofern es der isländische Vulkan mit dem unaussprechlichen Namen zulässt bekomme ich am Mittwoch dann auch meinen ersten Besuch aus Europa Mal schauen wer sich dann anschließend noch einreiht. Zumindest eine weitere Person hat schon Flüge gebucht und ich freu mich riesig

When I first chose my own adventure, I didn’t know what working remotely from home was going to be like. I had never done it before. As programmers go, I’m fairly social. Which still means I’m a borderline sociopath by normal standards. All the same, I was worried that I’d go stir-crazy with no division between my work life and my home life.

Well, I haven’t gone stir-crazy yet. I think. But in building Stack Overflow, I have learned a few things about what it means to work remotely — at least when it comes to programming. Our current team encompasses 5 people, distributed all over the USA, along with the team in NYC.[..]
